The State Convention is just around the corner. Here are a few details and comments concerning participation in this year’s convention in San Antonio.

At the State Convention, delegates from all 254 Texas Counties attend the convention and cast their votes to adopt a Democratic Party Platform, elect party officers and Democratic National Committee members, and adopt reports from the Rules, Credentials, Nominations, Platform and Resolutions committees.

At the State Convention, delegates elect the chair, vice chairs, treasurer and secretary of the Party. The delegates are grouped by state senatorial districts and elect two representatives, one man and one woman, to the SDEC. This group performs the statutorily required business of the Party. The SDEC has additional constituency group representatives who participate in all other decisions of the SDEC.

It is also at the State Convention where the parties will decide which delegates — who will have pledged to certain candidates based on the Texas primary vote — will represent them at the national conventions.  If you want to be a national delegate, you must attend the state convention.

If you were elected as a delegate at the County Convention that was held on March 19, you can go to: http://texasdemocraticconvention.com/  to get info on various convention topics (hotel, convention committees, national delegates, etc.).

If you want to RSVP for the convention now, go to:  http://act.txdemocrats.org/TDP16GuestRSVP. This is not necessary, it was automatically done for you when names were submitted to the state. If you are bringing  a guest, you need to register them.

After the State Convention, the 2016 Democratic National Convention will be be held July 25–28, 2016, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, with some events at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

notesNotes

“I have worked with Dennis Speight through out my years working in politics. He has done a great job taking over the at-large seat from former State Chairman and DNC Committeeman Bob Slagle and I want to encourage all of you going to convention to vote for our friend Dennis Speight.”

Thanks,
John Richie
Chairman
Wichita County Democratic Party
