Warren Tapped for Democrat Leadership

Alex Wong/Getty Images
Incoming Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid is said to be in private talks with freshman Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren to create a special leadership position for her. Warren is expected to serve as strategic policy adviser to the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee, a role in which she will serve as a go-between to liberal groups in order to ensure their voices are represented in private leadership deliberations.

Bad politicians are elected by good people who do not vote.

Early Voting Returns-The True Story

I am sure you have heard that Early Voting returns are down this year or that the Democrats should be nervous.  Well, in Wichita County and the rest of the State of Texas, that is simply not the truth.  We wanted to share with you what is actually going on.  First, the media must be looking at the slower turnout in Harris County (the 4th largest city in the United States).  Harris County has a Republican County Tax Assessor that is also the Elections Administrator for Harris County.  When Early voting started the Early Election Voting Centers were only open from 8:00am to 4:00pm.  That caused the slower start especially when you see the voting turnout over Saturday and Sunday.  We should see a much better turnout this week because the expanded hours will be in effect.  Second, there has been some analysis done by a group of experts that do data driven election research and there report sheds a different light.  We have included it here.

The first five days of Early Vote are encouraging for Wendy Davis and Democrats.

The media’s suggestion that the lower or stagnant overall turnout compared to 2010 is bad for Democrats is just plain wrong.

To the contrary, the lower or stagnant overall turnout compared to 2010 is a reflection of fewer Republican leaning voters going to the polls while Democratic leaning voters are showing up in greater numbers than at this point in 2010.

African American and Hispanic voters are turning out in higher numbers both in terms of raw votes as well as the percentage of overall turnout compared to 2010.

For example, for the first five days of early voting, 4% more African American voters have turned out compared to the same period in 2010. 12% more Hispanic voters have turned out

This is driven, in part, by a surge of drop off voters – Texans who typically vote in presidential but not mid-term elections and who overwhelmingly favor Davis and Van de Putte.

This is especially good news given that the first week of Early Vote always favors Republicans, as the hours for polling locations are more restrictive.

When you weight this expert data analysis over media, we will tend to come down on the side of the experts. In Wichita County we have to remember that the only poll is the last poll on Election Day. If you happen to read the article in the Times/Record News about how our numbers are down, keep in mind the writer used the wrong data. He was comparing data from 2012 not 2010 as the writer wrote in the article. We have had a significant increase in voter participation during Early Voting and we still have 2 days left.

We thought you should know the truth behind the smoke and mirrors. When you talk to your family, friends and neighbors ask them if they voted and thank them for making sure their vote counted. Also, remember Wendy Davis will be here Saturday and we will need help phone banking or block walking. We would like a great crowd so please come out.

Keep the faith and get out and vote.

Sincerely,
John Richie
Chairman

This is the Final Push …
We need YOU.

We are 2 weeks from Election Day.  We have great candidates up and down our ballot and they need every ounce of energy we have to get them across the finish line.  We have the correct message for the voters but some of them have not heard it.  Our time is now and we need you.

We have a plan that will help get our candidates message out but we need the people to deliver it.  If you are interested in winning this year and you are tired of what you have seen from the leadership of this state and you want to have the county we all want, we have some ways to help.  Please look at the list of things we have planed along with the times and dates and mark your calendars to come down to Democratic Headquarters to help.

I know you may be concerned with negative responses from people in this community but we have had a real good response by the vast majority we have spoken to either by phone or at their home.  Most, that are not voting with us, just say they are not interested and we move on to the next person.  Most of the volunteers we have had said they enjoyed the opportunity to do it and it was fun to do it.

We have had a great group working thus far but they and the candidates can use your help.  So please, find some time and come down to see what you can do to help.

Dear Friends –

I am excited to share the news with you that last week I received the endorsement of four major newspapers in my race for Texas Attorney General.

The Houston Chronicle, Fort Worth Star Telegram, Dallas Morning News and San Antonio Express News all recommended their readers vote for Sam Houston for Attorney General.

Earlier in the week I also won the Houston Bar Association’s Preference Poll by a decisive 51 to 39% against my opponent.

As great as this news is, however, we need your help to spread the word.

My opponent, Republican Ken Paxton not only admitted he violated Texas Securities laws – a third degree felony; he also accepted $1.4 million dollars from a single right-wing organization, Empower Texans.

We need your help to stay competitive in this race.

The Dallas Morning News said it best – Ken Paxton as Attorney General would be an “embarrassment for Texas.”

With your help, we can spread the word.  Please join our fight and contribute today.

Thank you,

Sam Houston

This is big news.

Glenn Hegar is “proud” to have cut billions from Texas schools, and now an independent fact checker has verified what we’ve said all along.

We need to spread the word. Forward this message to a few friends and let them know what’s going on.

We can do this if we stand together. Stick with us.

We’ve said all along that Glenn Hegar claimed he was “proud” to cut Texas schools. Now, we aren’t the only one’s saying it. Politifact, an online arbiter for truth in politics, took on the charge to see if we’re right. And I’ll give you a hint about what they found out:

You know the story.  Now help us fight back. Make your contribution here today.  Here’s what Politifact had to say: “Collier said Hegar was proud to cut public school funding.  In 2013,  Hegar said he was unashamed and proud to stand behind the cuts that Republicans passed into law. We rate Collier’s statement True.”  It isn’t just us saying it anymore. Word is out that Glenn Hegar and his friends are wrong for Texas. Help send a real financial watchdog to the Comptroller’s office. Time to get moving, everyone!
